WORLD STANDARDS DAY 2000 CELEBRATIONStandardisation - Collaborating for Higher ProductivityWorld Standards Day (WSD) marks the anniversary of the formation of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) in 1947. It has been celebrated annually in October by the three international standardisation organisations namely, the ISO, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This year the international theme adopted is "International Standards for Peace and Prosperity". In Singapore, PSB uses this occasion to pay tribute to the many technical experts who have contributed their services to national, regional and international standardisation activities. WSD 2000 will be celebrated with a series of events to highlight the benefits of Singapore Standards on competitiveness as well as the importance of international standards for exports. The celebration will close on 13 October 2000 with an award presentation to significant supporters of the national standardisation programme followed by a press supplement on standardisation activities on 18 October 2000.
