ISO 9000:2000 - Back with a Stunning New Outlook Seminar

International and local experts, who have participated in the recent revisions of the ISO 9000 standards, shared their knowledge and experience with industries at a seminar organised by PSB and supported by the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC). More than 500 participants attended the "ISO 9000:2000 Back With A Stunning New Outlook" seminar held on 22 March 2001 at the Orchard Hotel Singapore.

Mr Teo Nam Kuan (General Manager of Standards and Metrology Group, PSB), in his welcome address, highlighted Singapore's active involvement in the development and implementation of the ISO 9000 standards. He remarked that the popularity of these standards was shown by the fact that more than 1000 copies of SS ISO 9001:2000 were snapped up within 3 weeks of its availability.


Mr Bernard Boulanger, leader of the ISO Task Group on Trial Implementation of the new ISO 9000 standards, was specially invited from France. He shared the experiences of the trial implementation conducted in more than 300 companies in more than 30 countries as well as the detailed experiences of French organisations.


Mr Phua Kim Chua, Deputy Executive Director of SAC, presented on the Transition Planning Guidance document. He was involved in the development of this ISO document which was intended to assist users in understanding issues that need to be considered during the transition to ISO 9001:2000.


Adaptec Manufacturing (S) Pte Ltd shared their experience in implementing ISO 9001:2000. Mr Wong Tai Kiang, Quality Manager of Adaptec, emphasised that top management commitment was essential. He advised that key processes should be the focus and that there would be a total change in approach for auditing with the new standards.
