New, free brochures
support ISO 9000:2000 implementation
Two new brochures to assist organisations in understanding
and implementing the recently revised ISO 9000:2000 series have just been
published by ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation).
Quality management principles and ISO 9000 - Selection and use are attractive,
hard copy versions of the electronic documents already available on ISO's
Web site (www.iso.ch). The new brochures can be obtained from ISO's national
member institutes, which are listed on the organisation's Web site, and
from ISO Central Secretariat (sales@iso.ch).
PSB is the national member institute in Singapore. Limited numbers of
brochures in hardcopy are available by e-mail request to cfs@psb.gov.sg
or fax to 776 1280. Large quantities of brochures are available directly
from ISO at a charge for handling and postage.
The brochures were authored by experts from ISO technical committee ISO/TC
176, which is responsible for the ISO 9000 family of quality management
system standards and which produced the revised core series, published
on 15 December 2000.
The ISO 9000:2000 series is based on eight quality management principles
which are derived from the collective experience and knowledge of the
international experts who participate in ISO/TC 176. The principles are
intended for use by senior management as a framework to guide their organisations
towards improved performance.
Quality management principles gives the standardised descriptions of the
principles as they appear in ISO 9000:2000 and ISO 9004:2000. In addition,
it provides examples of the benefits derived from their use and of actions
that managers typically take in implementing the principles.
This brochure will have particular significance for the certification
bodies that audit organisations' quality systems and issue ISO 9000 certificates,
and for the national accreditation bodies that approve the competence
of certification bodies. According to a joint policy agreement reached
by ISO and the IAF (International Accreditation Forum), accreditation
bodies will be required to assess certification bodies on their programmes
to ensure that auditors and other relevant personnel know and understand
the eight quality management principles.
ISO 9000 - Selection and use is the second edition of this brochure which
has been updated to take into account the publication of the ISO 9000:2000
series. It presents the main features of the revised standards, such as
the merging of the familiar ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003 into the new
ISO 9001:2000. However, the principal aim of the brochure is to emphasise
that organisations stand to obtain the greatest value when the standards
in the new core series are used in an integrated manner, both with each
other and with the other standards making up the ISO 9000 family as a
whole.
This brochure includes:
-
A list of the ISO 9000 quality management system standards
and guidelines
-
Examples of typical applications of the documents
-
A step-by-step process to implement a quality management
system
-
A brief view of the future evolution of the ISO 9000
family.
