Two Singapore Standards to be withdrawn

SS 256 : 1996 SPECIFICATION FOR DIAPHRAGM TYPE OPERATED VALVES (PLASTICS BODIED) FOR COLD WATER CISTERNS ONLY (EXCLUDING FLOATS)

This standard specifies the performance requirements, materials, certain dimensions and tolerances of diaphragm type float operated valves (plastics bodied) of nominal size _ inches for cold water services only, for use at pressure up to and including 14 bar and intended for use with 114 S or 114 NS floats (plastics) conforming to SS 69 : 1981 - 'Floats (plastic) for float operated valves for cold water cisterns'.

The standard is no longer used by PUB and industry. Presently, the industry makes reference to BS 1212 : Part 4 : 1996 - 'Specification for compact type float operated valves for WC flushing cisterns (including floats)' as stipulated in SS 378 : 1996 - 'Low capacity flushing cisterns'.
(Issued on 01 Jun 2001 ; Comment closes on 02 Aug 2001)

SS 303 : 1985 SPECIFICATION FOR SCAFFOLD BOARDS AND METAL DECKINGS

This standard is not relevant anymore for use as many of the materials for scaffold boards are no longer in use

Under discussion for withdrawal

SS 187 : 1978 SPECIFICATION FOR QUALIFICATION TEST FOR MANUAL METAL-ARC WELDERS

This standard is proposed for withdrawal without replacement as a result of a survey indicating the low usage of the standard. The Singapore Welding Society had confirmed that this standard no longer has its industrial relevance and the industry is currently using various existing American and British standards.

SS 204 : 1978 SPECIFICATION FOR COVERED ELECTRODES FOR THE MANUAL METAL-ARC WELDING OF CARBON AND CARBON MANGANESE STEELS

This standard is proposed for withdrawal without replacement as a result of a survey indicating the low usage of the standard. The Singapore Welding Society had confirmed that this standard no longer has its industrial relevance and the industry is currently using various existing American and British standards.
