by about 500 delegates and observers. The other countries nominated are
shown in the table below. Concurrent meetings were held throughout the

One of the main highlights of the meetings was the revision
for ISO 14001:1996 Environmental Management Systems - Specification with
Guidance for Use which is the international standard used in the certification
for ISO 14001. The main intention of the revision was to improve the clarity
of the standard as well as to align the standard with ISO 9001:2000 where
relevant.
Our active participation in the development of the revised
ISO 14001 is extremely important as this international standard is applied
across all industry sectors world-wide. Direct involvement in the Drafting
Group would allow the concerns and needs of our industry to be given due
consideration in the international standardisation arena.
More than 80 delegates attended the Climate Change Workshop.
The main outcomes from the discussion were the harmonisation of best practices
and understanding of carbon measurement, verification and validation.
There would be many new areas that require fresh approaches with multinational
efforts, political wills and new technologies to address climate change
issues in the near future. At the final plenary session, a member country
informed the meeting that a new work item on Climate Change will be proposed
for TC 207.
