SS 530:2006 Code of
Practice for Energy Efficiency Standard for Building Services and
Equipment, is the revision of CP 24 that has taken into account
the changes in air-conditioning technology and energy efficiency
standards for electric motors.
In Singapore, the
energy bill is typically the building’s highest operating
expense. Given the tropical climate, a large part of the bill is
due to air-conditioning. SS 530 includes key improvements to the
sections on air-conditioning and motor drives of CP 24.
Implementation of SS 530 would lead to more energy efficient
buildings in Singapore.
With higher
efficiency, building owners and developers will benefit from
savings in terms of lower energy consumption and operating costs.
This would make our economy more resilient especially given rising
energy prices and the increasing energy consumption.
Implementation of SS 530 would raise the minimum efficiency
requirements of air-conditioning equipment by up to 32%.
SS 530 is referred
to in the Building and Construction Authority’s Building Control
Regulations. Under the BCA Green Mark Building Scheme for
promoting environment-friendly buildings, energy efficiency is one
of the key criteria assessed using the SS as a reference guide.
The seminar will
also highlight upcoming Singapore Standards that are important for
the industry professionals in enhancing building sustainability in
the wake of worldwide concern over environmental issues and
sustainability. The standards are:
· Mechanical
Ventilation and Air-conditioning in Buildings and
· Indoor Air
Quality in Air-conditioned Buildings
